Advanced Energy Storage & Grid Integration
Jeff Dahn, Michael Metzger, Mark Obrovac and Chongyin Yang are working on advanced lithium ion batteries focusing on electrode materials, electrolytes. Gurpreet Selopal is designing 2D materials to develop high-performing solid-state electrolytes for batteries and supercapacitors. Lukas Swan is working with numerous grid-interactive battery technologies at demonstration scale (100+ kWh) to develop optimized control for energy efficiency, availability, resiliency, and lifetime. Penghao Xiao is working on ab initio simulation of kinetic processes dictating the performance and durability of battery materials. Supercapacitors, used in applications requiring short burst for high power applications such as airbag deployment and camera flashes are being developed by Heather Andreas and Michael Freund.
